Former U.S. President Bill Clinton said he was tired of Muslims being denigrated simply because of their faith. The 80-year-old Clinton spoke on Oct. 21 at Koinonia Worship Center in Hollywood, Florida, at an election event held for Democratic gubernatorial candidate David Jolly.
Clinton said, "I'm tired of people denigrating Muslims simply because they are Muslim," and cited a verse from the Quran. Clinton said he first heard the verse from his daughter, who read the Quran from beginning to end when she was 15, and added that God created people not to belittle one another but to know one another and learn from one another.
Clinton's remarks draw on verse 13 of Surah Al-Hujurat, which says that people were created as nations and tribes so that they may know one another.
"There are bad actors in every faith because we are all flawed human beings," Clinton said, adding that he was also tired of religious wars and culture wars.
