Kazakhstan and Türkiye signed a readmission agreement establishing procedures for the return of people who have no legal right to remain in either country.
Türkiye’s Interior Minister Mustafa Çiftçi visited the city of Turkistan after Astana, the capital, during his visit to Kazakhstan for the 3rd Meeting of the Interior Ministers of the Organization of Turkic States.
In Turkistan, Çiftçi visited the Khoja Ahmed Yasawi Mausoleum and the Khoja Ahmed Yasawi International Kazakh-Turkish University. The minister later met with Kazakhstan’s Interior Minister Yerjan Sadenov.
Security cooperation discussed
The meeting addressed ways to develop cooperation between the law enforcement agencies of the two countries. The fight against transnational crime and cybercrime, search operations, migration security, personnel training and direct contact between relevant units were among the main topics.
Following the meeting, Kazakhstan and Türkiye signed the readmission agreement.
Sadenov said that fraternal ties and a high level of trust connect Kazakhstan and Türkiye, adding that concrete cooperation between their institutions reflects this understanding. He described the agreement as a practical step toward strengthening cooperation.
Decision on direct contact
The parties agreed to develop direct contact between relevant units, increase the sharing of experience and expand joint work on current security issues.
The agreement is expected to strengthen the legal basis for cooperation between the two countries in the field of migration and establish the procedures for returning people who have no legal right to remain in their territories.
