Kazakh Foreign Minister Mukhtar Tleuberdi discussed the safety of Kazakhstan’s ships in the Black Sea with Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha in New York on the sidelines of a United Nations General Assembly session.
Tleuberdi said in a statement to Kazakhstan-based Ulysmedia that they had discussed with the Ukrainian side the need to prevent new drone attacks targeting Kazakhstan’s ships.

Two tankers were attacked at the end of July
At the end of July, two tankers near the Caspian Pipeline Consortium’s marine terminal in the Black Sea were targeted in drone attacks during the night. Oil-loading operations were temporarily suspended following the attacks.
Kazakhstan’s Foreign Ministry described the attacks targeting ships used to transport the consortium’s oil as interference in the country’s interests.
Kazakhstan reiterates its call for negotiations
Tleuberdi said that bilateral relations and the conflict situation around Ukraine were discussed during his meeting with Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov.
Stating that Kazakhstan supports the resumption of negotiations between Moscow and Kyiv as soon as possible, Tleuberdi said his country was ready to provide a platform for talks if the parties wished.
A critical route for oil transport
The consortium’s oil pipeline system is described as the largest route used to transport oil from the Caspian region to global markets. The system carries more than 80 percent of Kazakhstan’s oil exports.
Kazakh Energy Minister Erlan Akkenzhenov also described the drone attacks targeting the consortium’s facilities as one of the challenges facing his country’s oil sector in 2026.
