Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu, who returned to the CHP chairmanship by court ruling, had previously announced he would speak at the CHP Group Meeting in Parliament but, following tensions since the morning hours, he called deputies and party members who came to support him to the party headquarters and delivered his speech there.
"IF I DON'T HOLD ACCOUNTABLE, I'M DISHONORABLE" Saying, "If I don't hold accountable those who brought the absolute nullity case upon this party, I would be dishonorable," Kılıçdaroğlu stated, "We will say goodbye to anyone involved in this, anyone who sought benefit from corruption, anyone who took money in shady places."
THIRD MEETING IN 8 DAYS After his speech, Kılıçdaroğlu met with his advisors at the headquarters and called the Central Executive Board (MYK) to a meeting today at 13:00. Following the appellate decision, Kılıçdaroğlu had appointed MYK members on June 2, with the first meeting held that day and the second on June 5. The third meeting tomorrow will mark the MYK convening three times in eight days.
DEPUTY EXPULSIONS TO BE DISCUSSED It was learned that the MYK meeting will include a thorough evaluation of today's crisis and the issue of expulsions will be on the agenda.
On the expulsions agenda, there is a letter sent by the High Disciplinary Board (YDK) to the MYK requesting that all expulsions made after November 4-5, 2023, be considered null and void, as well as consideration of new decisions regarding "members committing party offenses."
Advisors said disciplinary proceedings might be initiated against some individuals involved in disputes among party members in front of the Parliament, stating, "How can someone who calls the party leader a 'traitor' remain in this party?"
"OUR PRIORITY WILL BE THE DEPUTY GROUP" Advisors noted that insults were directed primarily at Kılıçdaroğlu and party members, all of which they have monitored. They divided the cleansing process into two parts: the ongoing cases related to mayors and allegations concerning the party's institutional identity, including the absolute nullity case. They said, "Our priority will be the deputy group."
Advisors claimed, "The MYK has the authority to directly refer deputies to disciplinary action," responding to views that this authority lies with the Party Assembly by saying, "Our interpretations differ on that matter," and explained that deputies can be referred to the YDK for expulsion requests by the MYK.
PARTY BYLAWS POINT TO PARTY ASSEMBLY Following the absolute nullity ruling, Kılıçdaroğlu's side argues that the bylaws in effect during the 37th Ordinary Congress held on July 25-26, 2020, and adopted in 2018, are valid.
According to Article 63, Section 1, titled "Authority," in these bylaws, members of the party's upper bodies, including deputies, can be referred to disciplinary action by a decision of the Party Assembly.
This section of the bylaws states, "The party offenses committed by Party Assembly members, the chairman and members of the High Disciplinary Board, members of Parliament, and metropolitan mayors affiliated with the party are decided by the High Disciplinary Board upon the request of the Party Assembly."
PARTY ASSEMBLY TO MEET ON THURSDAY The PM members elected at the CHP 37th Ordinary Congress, who returned to duty following the absolute nullity ruling, will meet for the first time under Kılıçdaroğlu's chairmanship. The meeting, which will also include individuals close to CHP Group Chairman Özgür Özel, will take place on Thursday, June 11, at the CHP Headquarters.
