Governor Murat Sefa Demiryürek invited lovers of Turkish folk songs and bozlak music, as well as those wishing to learn more about Neşet Ertaş, to the Neşet Ertaş Culture and Music Festival, which will take place from August 7 to 9.
Speaking at a press conference held at the Security and Emergency Situations Coordination Center, Demiryürek said that everyone could find something of themselves in Neşet Ertaş’s songs. He said that keeping an artist’s memory alive was not limited to remembering their works, adding that the culture that shaped the artist must be understood, conveyed and carried into the future.
Festival program
The festival will begin with a visit to Neşet Ertaş’s grave at Bağbaşı Cemetery. The festival will then officially open at the Neşet Ertaş Culture Center.
The program will feature panels and storytelling sessions with the participation of academics. These events will examine the abdal tradition, bozlak culture and the sources that nourished Neşet Ertaş’s art.
The festival will also feature Central Anatolia, a musical that portrays the culture of Anatolia through art. Evening concerts will be held at Cacabey Square.
Demiryürek said care had been taken to prepare content in which people of all ages could find something meaningful. He said that, despite the passing of the years, Neşet Ertaş continued to live on in people’s hearts through the subtlety of his bağlama playing, the wisdom of his lyrics and the humility of his life.
Demiryürek said that Kırşehir kept alive the legacies of Ahilik, Aşık Paşa, Cacabey and Neşet Ertaş within the same cultural environment, adding that passing this heritage on to new generations correctly was a responsibility.
The book Bozkırın Sazı, Toprağın Avazı: Neşet Ertaş, written by Neşet Ertaş’s close friend Bayram Bilge Tokel, will also meet readers at the festival.
