FIA has launched an investigation into Lando Norris for arriving late to the press conference held during the Monaco Grand Prix weekend. The McLaren driver attended the first part of the meeting held on Thursday in Monte Carlo but the case was brought before the stewards because he did not join the session on time.
The planned start time of the meeting was 14:30 Monaco local time. The session was delayed by a few minutes due to Norris's late arrival. Ferrari driver Charles Leclerc and Audi's Gabriel Bortoleto accompanied Norris in the first part.
Stewards will hold a hearing
The FIA stewards announced that they are conducting an investigation because Norris was late to the press conference. Along with Norris, a McLaren representative is also required to attend the hearing scheduled for Friday at 10:10 Monaco local time.
This meeting will take place a few hours before the first free practice session in Monaco. Being late to press conferences during the Formula 1 weekend usually results in a fine.
Steward panel announced
The steward panel in Monaco includes former F1 driver Derek Warwick, Garry Connelly, Tanja Geilhausen, and Jean-Francois Calmes. The outcome of the investigation is expected to be shaped within the standard sanctions for late attendance at the meeting.
Norris is the last winner of the Monaco Grand Prix. This race, which he won in 2025, ended the driver's six-race winless streak.
The McLaren driver had a quieter start to the 2026 season. A podium finish in Miami was the only top result of the season so far.
Norris retired for the first time at the Canadian Grand Prix due to a gearbox problem in the car. In China, both Norris and teammate Oscar Piastri had to leave the second race without starting due to technical problems on the grid.
As the Monaco Grand Prix weekend approaches, Norris is in fifth place in the drivers' standings. He is 73 points behind Mercedes driver and leader Kimi Antonelli.
