Lewis Hamilton sent a strong message to his rivals by stating that his seven Formula 1 world championships are no coincidence. The British driver, competing for his eighth championship with Ferrari, emphasized that he still knows what it takes to reach the top.
Hamilton is tied with Michael Schumacher for seven world championships in his career. However, he has surpassed Schumacher’s 91 Grand Prix wins by reaching 105 victories.
Currently second in the drivers' standings this season, Hamilton is 66 points behind leader Kimi Antonelli after six race weekends. After some performance fluctuations at the start of the season, it is reported that he has found a better rhythm with the new aerodynamic car.
As Hamilton enters the Barcelona race aiming for his third consecutive podium, he recently finished second behind Antonelli in the Canada and Monaco stages. These results indicate that he has regained his race pace.
The British driver also directly responded to his critics. Ignoring calls for retirement, Hamilton clearly stated that he intends to continue racing on the tracks.
Hamilton said he is in a better physical and mental state, working with a much more positive approach compared to last year. He also explained that racing without injuries and competing with a car that suits his driving style gives him an advantage.
Stating that his goals align with Ferrari’s, Hamilton expressed his belief that the team is on the right track. He said that everyone must work in the same direction and with the same strength to achieve success.
Hamilton said he is focused on continuously pushing the team forward and working with full attack. According to him, reaching the big goal will take time, but if the team stays on the same path, they could reach a "magical" point.
Meanwhile, 1997 world champion Jacques Villeneuve argued that it does not seem easy for Hamilton to establish a direct advantage over Mercedes with Ferrari this season. Villeneuve said Hamilton has done very well in recent races but that this is not enough against Mercedes in straight-line speed.
Villeneuve also evaluated Hamilton’s current form based on the battles among rivals and potential issues. Nevertheless, he added that Hamilton has found a good rhythm, appearing confident and aggressive at the moment.
