Maduro and wife's US trial set to begin June 1, 2027
Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro and his wife Cilia Flores were detained during a military intervention on January 3. Their trial in the US is set to begin on June 1, 2027.
The start date for the US trial of Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro and his wife Cilia Flores has been set. According to ABC News, US Federal Judge Alvin Hellerstein ruled at a preliminary hearing that the trial will begin on June 1, 2027.
Maduro and his wife Flores were detained on January 3 during a military intervention in the capital Caracas, where explosions and the sounds of warplanes were heard. Following the incident, the Venezuelan government accused the US of attacking civilian and military targets in various parts of the country.

Trump: Large-scale operation conducted
US President Donald Trump announced that a large-scale operation targeting Maduro had been carried out and that the Venezuelan leader and his wife had been taken out of the country. Then-US Attorney General Pam Bondi announced that charges had been filed against Maduro and his wife.
Defense: He has immunity
Maduro's lawyer Barry Pollack argued that his client, as the president of a sovereign state, has judicial immunity and said they would challenge the indictment.
