The Urban Transformation Directorate, under the Ministry of Environment, Urbanization and Climate Change, has completed the construction of 263 independent units—232 residences and 31 workplaces—as part of the Has Sitesi Urban Transformation Project in Istanbul's Tuzla district.
As part of the project, which serves as an example of reserve building area transformation in Tuzla, modern living spaces with earthquake-resistant, energy-friendly features, green areas, and parks were built. Beneficiaries began moving into their new homes as of March. 'Those who don't trust their homes should go and apply,' said Murat Kurum, Minister of Environment, Urbanization and Climate Change, as he shared footage of citizens receiving their new homes on social media.
In his message, Minister Kurum said, 'Another urban transformation story with a happy ending... When our nation smiles, it feels like we've been given the world.' Beneficiary Sıdıka Koca stated that their homes were previously not earthquake-resistant, saying, 'Our homes were decayed; at that time, all the rebar had come out. People went to the municipality and complained. By the decision of the mayor, we moved out of that house. May God be pleased.
It's a good thing we moved out. They saved us from a dilapidated building. A thousand thanks; I sleep with peace of mind. It's as if they gave me the whole world. The payments are also reasonable, not overwhelming. Those with decayed homes, those who don't trust their homes, should go to the state and apply, have their homes renewed. I recommend it. The state is our father. The state wants our well-being. The state does not want us to be miserable,' she said.
Sıdıka Koca's husband, Muzaffer Koca, described his feelings after receiving the key, saying, 'May God be pleased with our state; it intervened here. It created reserve areas. It built our building, delivered it, and we received our key. I entered my home and was moved. I cried; I couldn't hold back my tears because I came to my own home.'
'We now have homes where we can lay our heads and sleep peacefully,' said Mesut Keleş, who appeared in the footage, emphasizing that the buildings were constructed under technical supervision. 'The buildings were built with the work of TOKİ consultants, exactly as they wanted. So they were built very properly. If this transformation hadn't happened, who knows how many people would have died?'
Nigar Lale described the comfort of the new homes, saying, 'It's like paradise. I sleep a little in this room, then I go and sleep a little in the other room, then I go and sleep a little in the children's room. It's been wonderful...'
