Minister of Transport and Infrastructure Abdulkadir Uraloğlu made a statement on the work along the route that starts at the Pazar-Ardeşen junction of the Black Sea Coastal Road, passes through the Çamlıhemşin district center and reaches Ayder Plateau.
Uraloğlu said that the section of the 36.5-kilometer Pazar-Ardeşen junction–Çamlıhemşin–Ayder road project including the completed Çamlıhemşin Tunnel, the Fırtına River Bridge and the Hala River-1 Bridge would open to traffic on August 17.
Ten kilometers of the project have been completed
Uraloğlu said that an approximately 8-kilometer section built to single-carriageway standards had previously been opened to traffic, and that the project’s completed portion would reach 10 kilometers once the 2-kilometer Çamlıhemşin Tunnel Section opens for use.
Uraloğlu said the route’s capacity had been increased by adding lanes to the existing road, providing residents with faster, safer and more comfortable transportation. The first 5.5 kilometers of the project are being built as a four-lane divided highway with a bituminous hot-mix surface, while the remaining sections are being constructed with a 12-meter platform width and climbing lanes.
The route includes 3,670 meters of tunnels
The route includes the 955-meter Çamlıhemşin Tunnel, the 2,265-meter Hala Tunnel and the 450-meter Hala-2 Tunnel. The total length of the three single-tube tunnels is 3,670 meters.
The project also includes the 50-meter Akkaya Bridge, the 40-meter Şenyamaç Bridge, the 135-meter Fırtına River Bridge, the 90-meter Hala River-1 Bridge and the 30-meter Hala River-2 Bridge. The total length of the five bridges is 345 meters.
Work continues on an approximately 7-kilometer section
Uraloğlu said excavation and lining-concrete work in the Hala Tunnel had been completed. He added that excavation and support work in the Hala-2 Tunnel had ended, while arch-concrete construction was continuing.
Work is continuing on the approximately 7-kilometer section between the Çamlıhemşin Tunnel and Ayder Plateau.
Travel time is expected to fall by 20 minutes
Uraloğlu said the road project would shorten the route by 1.5 kilometers once completed. Travel time is expected to fall from 55 minutes to 35 minutes.
Once the project is completed, annual savings of 675 million liras from travel time and 97 million liras from fuel, totaling 772 million liras, are expected. Carbon emissions are also expected to decrease by 4,800 tons annually.
Uraloğlu said the project would facilitate access from the Black Sea coast to inland areas, make transportation to tourism centers in the region—particularly Ayder Plateau—more comfortable, and contribute to the area’s trade and tourism potential.
