Moldova, which is continuing its European Union accession process, is preparing to change the visa-free entry regime for citizens of 11 countries, including Türkiye. Prime Minister Vasile Tofan said on TV8’s "Cutia Neagră" program that candidate countries must gradually align their visa policies with EU rules.
Tofan did not give a date for when the visa requirement would take effect. "We want to continue moving along the European path. I am not ready to give a date. If EU norms require it, I believe we must take the decisions that will allow us to advance in the process of European integration," he said.

According to a report by the European Commission, Moldova must align its visa regime for citizens of these 11 countries with EU rules: Türkiye, Russia, Belarus, Armenia, Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Uzbekistan, Tajikistan, Qatar and Vanuatu. Citizens of these countries can currently enter Moldova without visas.
Other EU candidate countries are taking similar steps. Montenegro has also required visas from citizens of Türkiye, Russia, Belarus, China and Saudi Arabia since November 1, 2026. Bosnia and Herzegovina is likewise required to introduce visas for citizens of Türkiye, Azerbaijan, Kuwait, Qatar, Russia and China.
