The Islamic Union Presidency of Serbia and the Islamic Union Meshihat signed an agreement to unite under a single institutional roof after nearly 20 years of separation.
The unification ceremony was held on Friday in Novi Pazar, in the south of the country. The document, titled the “Statute of the Union of the Islamic Community of Serbia,” was signed at the ceremony, bringing an end to the division between the two institutions that had continued since 2007.

Novi Pazar will be the center of the new structure
The document approved the creation of a unified institution headquartered in Novi Pazar. Mevlud Dudić, president of the Islamic Union Meshihat of Serbia, will lead the new organization.
Speaking at the signing ceremony, Senad Haldović, president of the Islamic Union Presidency of Serbia, said the document was of historic importance. “The difficult period experienced by Muslims for nearly 20 years ends today. There are no losers among us; everyone has won,” Haldović said.
Mevlud Dudić also highlighted the importance of unity and solidarity, saying the signing represented a victory for everyone who rejected the legacy of division and fragmentation. Dudić said they had achieved this outcome together.
Husein Kavazović, president of the Islamic Community of Bosnia and Herzegovina, welcomed the decision in Serbia and expressed his happiness at the development.

The Muslim population in Serbia
