Nine FETÖ suspects and the captain of the Russian-flagged Peter Pan boat, who were caught off Muğla’s Datça district, were sent to court. After police processing was completed, the suspects underwent medical checks.
A search of the boat uncovered 40,080 euros, 200 dollars, 4,752 liras and three forged Belgian identity cards. The Peter Pan was seized.
The suspects’ professions
The suspects in custody included a private-school teacher dismissed from the profession, a laborer, a technician, a dormitory director and a court clerk.
Background to the operation
The Muğla Chief Public Prosecutor’s Office determined that the suspects, who were being investigated for membership in FETÖ and whose cases were at the appeal stage, were preparing to flee abroad.
After it was determined that the suspects were aboard the Russian-flagged Peter Pan off Datça on September 6, in an area near international waters, Coast Guard Command teams took action.
Nine suspects, two children and the boat captain were apprehended after the vessel was stopped. The two children, for whom judicial proceedings had been initiated, were handed over to relatives.
