ISTANBUL (Medyascope) – Özgür Özel, the elected Chairman of the CHP, addressed citizens who came to the Parliament to follow the group meeting but were not allowed inside, speaking to them at the Dikmen Gate: "You have once again repelled the coup attempt being carried out against the Republican People's Party, its elected Chairman, and its elected deputies by the AK Party judiciary and its judicial branches right at the gates of the honorable Parliament."
Özgür Özel, the elected chairman of the Republican People's Party, spoke to citizens gathered at the Parliament's Dikmen Gate who were not allowed inside due to the visitor ban to attend the CHP Parliamentary Group Meeting. Responding to chants of "Turkey is proud of you," Özel said, "Turkey is not proud of me, but proud of you, each and every one of you.
Today, you stood against the Republican People's Party, the founding party of Turkey, the party of liberation and establishment, against its elected Chairman and deputies, and repelled the coup attempt orchestrated by the AK Party judiciary and its branches right at the gates of this Parliament," he said. Özel continued his speech at the Parliament gate:
"If it weren't for you, those types who should not even pass through the party's street on a Sunday morning at 7:00 AM would have reached the Parliament gate today and been let inside as if they were guests of the Republican People's Party.
They would have provoked and sabotaged the group meeting, seized it by force if necessary, and handed the podium not to the elected Chairman but to someone appointed by a decision. I watched you here today with my heart in my throat. I understand your anger, your frustration, your discomfort. I feel similar emotions, but I must note this: today you confronted them, and I watched with my heart in my throat.
But you showed this: despite the unjust and unlawful decision based on the AK Party's judicial coup, and the notification sent to 81 provinces by those relying on that decision, those who had no place in the party in their provinces, those without hope, those unworthy of the party suddenly came.
None of them were promised anything, many were unaware of this meeting until recently, but you, who stand on the side of justice, the party, and on the right side of history, came and shielded your fragile but rightful and strong bodies against those large but unjust and unlawful forces. Well done to you."
"Brave people break such schemes"
"From now on, no one should try to dress up a thief as a marksman. If you say, ‘I will celebrate with a thousand people, I will bring a thousand people, I will hold a group meeting, I will derive legitimacy from a thousand people,’ in front of those thousand people, these brave representatives of millions in Turkey will come out and break the game. For this, I feel both gratitude and great embarrassment watching from my office.
The Parliament Presidency imposed a visitor ban today to prevent negative scenes inside. Your presence here was more than just to hold or force a group meeting or to prevent an unlawful occupation attempt; your presence here was precisely to protect the party's legal rights, the ballot box, and our collective future.
Therefore, although the group hall may be deprived of your honorable and courageous presence, I conclude my words by expressing my gratitude and love to each of you. You fulfilled your duty so naturally that this stance will be recorded in the party's history as one of the unforgettable stands."
"You are getting me to Manisa on time"
"Two voices are heard, one saying ‘congress,’ the other ‘power.’ You are saying exactly the right thing. First, we will hold the congress, then we will march to power. I am proud of all of you and grateful to you all.
Friends, from now on, as you leave here, I want you to walk with hope for power, chanting ‘power, power,’ and know that I will never compromise on the party’s march to power, never surrender, and never let you down.
Now, as lions who have done their duty, as brave social democrats, my dear brothers, sisters, and siblings, let us walk towards our homes, villages, workplaces, and the veins of the nation. ‘Power, power, power.’ Thank you all. I will address Turkey from the group meeting. You walk to the heart of the nation, and together we will march to power. I love you all very much.
I'm glad you exist. Thank you very much. Also, do you know what will happen thanks to you? I had stayed because they took the opportunity of my brother Ferdi’s death anniversary to send me to Manisa. With your attitude, you are getting me to Manisa on time, sending me there. I’m glad you exist.".
