The “Be a Light for Gaza” event was held in Cappadocia, one of Türkiye’s tourism centers, on Saturday evening in solidarity with Gaza. Participants lit their mobile phone lights to show support for Palestinians.
The event was organized by the Nevşehir branch of the Human Rights and Freedoms Humanitarian Relief Foundation (IHH). Participants carried a dove-shaped banner symbolizing peace and freedom.
The banner featured an olive branch, the Palestinian flag and drawings related to Jerusalem. The phrase “Freedom for Gaza” was formed with LED lights, while participants joined the display with their phone lights.
A “silent cry”
Tuncay Zeyd Sisli, head of the IHH Nevşehir branch, said they wanted to deliver a strong humanitarian message for Gaza to the world from Cappadocia through the event.
Sisli said the lights lit by participants symbolized the shared conscience, solidarity and call for justice for Gaza. Sisli said they wanted to show that they shared in the pain and hardship experienced by Gaza, describing the event as a “silent cry.”
The illuminated display in Cappadocia was filmed from the air. The event concluded with a Quran recitation and prayer.
