President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan received İzmir Metropolitan Mayor Cemil Tugay at the Presidential Complex in Ankara in a meeting closed to the press.

Speaking after the meeting, Tugay said he briefed Erdoğan on the important issues on İzmir’s agenda and projects for the city’s future. Earlier in the day, he met Transport and Infrastructure Minister Abdulkadir Uraloğlu to discuss the city’s priority transport projects, including the Second Ring Road, urban connection roads, İZBAN commuter rail and metro lines.

Tugay, who was elected mayor on the CHP ticket in March 2024, resigned from the party on June 18, 2026, and has since served as an independent. His statement did not refer to any change of party.
