Türkiye's installed electricity capacity reached 126,944 megawatts as of the end of August. Renewable sources accounted for 62.9% of total installed capacity, while domestic sources accounted for 72.1%.
Installed solar power capacity rose to 27,914 megawatts. Solar power accounted for 22% of total installed capacity, while installed wind power capacity reached 15,434 megawatts, representing 12.2% of the total.
The combined installed capacity of solar and wind power thus reached 43,348 megawatts. Together, these two sources accounted for 34.2% of total installed capacity.
Bayraktar highlights energy investments
Minister of Energy and Natural Resources Alparslan Bayraktar said they continued to strengthen Türkiye's energy infrastructure. Bayraktar stated that investments in renewable energy, particularly solar and wind power, would be accelerated.
Bayraktar said that increasing the share of renewable sources would strengthen energy supply security and contribute to Türkiye's progress toward its 2053 Net Zero Emissions target. Bayraktar stated that Türkiye would present its vision and concrete targets in the energy sector during the COP31 process, adding that efforts would continue toward the goal of full energy independence.
Distribution of installed capacity by source
- Hydroelectric: 32,331 megawatts and 25.5%
- Solar: 27,914 megawatts and 22%
- Natural gas: 25,012 megawatts and 19.7%
- Wind: 15,434 megawatts and 12.2%
- Domestic coal: 11,565 megawatts and 9.1%
- Imported coal: 10,466 megawatts and 8.2%
- Biomass: 2,424 megawatts and 1.9%
- Geothermal: 1,798 megawatts and 1.4%
According to this distribution, hydroelectric power was the source with the largest share of total installed capacity. The increase in the combined share of solar and wind power further strengthened the role of renewable sources in electricity capacity.
