Russia's nuclear energy agency Rosatom announced that the container ship 'Yanaina' owned by the company sank in the Black Sea after a drone attack.
Rosatom Director General Alexey Likhachev stated that all 17 crew members on board were rescued. Likhachev said the ship was targeted by two drones while carrying civilian goods such as frozen food, construction materials and equipment in international waters.
Likhachev described the attack as 'piracy and maritime banditry,' saying, 'It is impossible to explain this attack as anything other than piracy and the disruption of the sea route.'
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy announced on Saturday that attacks were carried out on three oil refineries in Russia and on the container ship 'Yanaina'.
Russia has been conducting a military operation in Ukraine since February 24, 2022. Moscow demands that Kyiv abandon its goal of joining Western military alliances for the operation to end. Ukraine considers this demand as interference in its internal affairs.
