It has been reported that since early June 2026, the Russian army has been targeting transportation routes between Kharkiv and Sumy. The attacks have particularly strained the connection between the two cities.
Serhii "Flash" Beskrestnov, an advisor to the Ukrainian Defense Minister, announced the attacks via Telegram. Beskrestnov stated that enemy forces have been striking transportation links between Kharkiv and Sumy since the beginning of the month.
Among the first targeted locations was the road section near Bohodukhiv. This area is noted as one of the closest points to the border, located approximately 20 kilometers away from it.
Beskrestnov wrote that simply urging drivers to be cautious does not seem sufficient; instead, it is necessary to determine what actions should be taken. This statement has brought concerns about transportation safety in the region back into focus.
The same report also mentioned that Russia has been launching Shahed-type drones directly from the factory toward Ukraine. This assessment indicates that the attacks are not limited to the road network alone.
