Renat Suleimanov, a member of the Russian State Duma, stated in an interview with the Russian media that the Russian economy cannot endure the prolonged war in Ukraine. The Communist Party member said that military expenditures constitute about 40% of Russia's federal budget, triggering inflation and reducing social spending. Suleimanov emphasized that the war should end as quickly as possible. He also mentioned that about one million people working in the defense industry will return to civilian life and will face issues related to employment, salary, and social adaptation. It is noted that military expenditures in Russia's 2026 budget amount to 12.93 trillion rubles (141 billion dollars), and with security and law enforcement expenses, this figure rises to 16.84 trillion rubles (184 billion dollars). This amount is said to be about one and a half times Russia's total social spending. Suleimanov had previously supported Russia's invasion of Ukraine and was listed for sanctions by the EU, the US, and the UK.
