The share of solar and wind power in Türkiye’s electricity generation has increased significantly over the past decade. Solar power’s share of electricity generation rose from 0.4% in 2016 to 11.6% as of July 2026.
Wind power’s share of electricity generation also increased from 5.7% to 12.1% over the same period. These increases came alongside growth in solar and wind investments.
Installed capacity reaches 42,865 megawatts
Türkiye’s total installed electricity capacity stood at 126,476 megawatts at the end of July. Solar power’s installed capacity reached 27,507 megawatts, accounting for 21.7% of total capacity.
Wind power’s installed capacity rose to 15,358 megawatts, bringing its share of total installed capacity to 12.1%. The combined installed capacity of solar and wind reached 42,865 megawatts, accounting for 33.8% of the total.
Monthly generation record for solar power
Electricity generation from solar power reached its highest monthly level in July, following the record set in June. Solar power generation was recorded at 5.37 billion kilowatt-hours in July.
Bayraktar: We have achieved a major transformation
Energy and Natural Resources Minister Alparslan Bayraktar said Türkiye had achieved a major transformation in the energy sector over the past decade. Bayraktar said solar power’s share of electricity generation had increased 28-fold to 11.6%, while wind power’s share had risen to 12.1%.
Bayraktar said the combined installed capacity of solar and wind had reached approximately 43,000 megawatts, adding that this transformation demonstrated the goal of achieving cleaner and more affordable energy. He also said targets in renewable energy would be advanced further במסגרת COP31, which will be held in Antalya.
