SpaceX, the American aerospace company led by Elon Musk, successfully conducted the 13th test flight of its Starship rocket, carrying 20 Starlink V3 satellites into orbit.
According to a statement from the company on X, the launch took place from the Starbase facility in Texas. At the end of its mission, Starship made a soft landing in the Indian Ocean.
Previous test flights and issues
Starship had encountered various setbacks during previous flights. During the 7th flight on Jan. 16, 2025, the 8th flight on Mar. 7, 2025, and the 9th flight on May 28, 2025, the rocket broke apart in mid-air. The 10th test flight was postponed due to cloudy weather in Texas but was later completed successfully. The 11th flight on Oct. 13, 2025, also went smoothly.
On the most recent 12th flight, although the rocket was launched successfully, some engines malfunctioned. The vehicle fell into the Indian Ocean near the planned landing zone and unexpectedly caught fire.
On this 13th flight, all systems functioned properly and the satellite deployment to orbit was successful.
