The foundation of the TÜRKSAT Gölbaşı Data Center, one of the strategic investments that will boost Turkey's digital sovereignty and cybersecurity capacity, was laid yesterday. The project, to be implemented by TÜRKSAT AŞ, an affiliated organization of the Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure, will ensure that critical public data is protected at the highest security standards upon completion.
The facility will have a total construction area of 35,300 square meters, including a 28,500-square-meter data center building and 6,300 square meters of white space. The center's total installed power is planned at 33 megavolt amperes, with an information technology (IT) power of 18 megawatts.
Special Rooms for Artificial Intelligence
In addition to 6 standard system rooms, the data center will feature 2 HPC (High Performance Computing) rooms for high-performance artificial intelligence applications. The facility, with a total capacity of 1,630 cabinets, will provide 10 kilowatts of power in standard cabinets and 40 kilowatts in the AI rooms. Thus, the center will become one of the key hubs for Turkey's artificial intelligence plans.
The first phase of the project is planned to be commissioned in the first quarter of 2028. Within this scope, 530 standard cabinets, 20 AI infrastructure cabinets, and 7 megawatts of IT power will be put into service.
Efficiency Goal in Public Resources
The TÜRKSAT Gölbaşı Data Center aims to meet the IT infrastructure needs of public institutions from a single center, prevent duplicate investments, and ensure more efficient use of public resources. It also aims to contribute to the uninterrupted and high-quality delivery of e-Government services and support Turkey's transformation into a regional hub for data storage, processing, and transmission.
The center is expected to offer cloud computing, artificial intelligence, big data solutions, cybersecurity, hosting, and storage services.
"Digital Fortress" Strategy
In the modern understanding of the state, data centers are described as "digital fortresses" that protect strategic decision-making mechanisms and public order. The project is built on three key strategic elements: security, scalability, and data sovereignty. The data center will provide infrastructure that ensures operational continuity even during crises, and with a capacity exceeding 76,000 RU (Rack) units and its modular structure, it can be expanded to meet future needs.
Will Serve All Public Institutions
The project aims to reduce technological dependency on foreign sources and strengthen national capacity against cyber threats by keeping critical public data within Turkey's borders and protecting it with domestic technology infrastructure. The TÜRKSAT Gölbaşı Data Center will provide solutions to issues faced by public institutions such as high costs, capacity planning problems, inadequate cybersecurity measures, and energy efficiency. The center will ensure that not only TÜRKSAT but also Turkey's largest institutions and organizations receive secure and uninterrupted service even in extraordinary circumstances.
