In an incident that occurred yesterday evening in Hürriyet Mahallesi of Suruç district, Şanlıurfa, 8-year-old Evin Bayo was attacked by stray dogs while walking home. The young girl, whose father has passed away, was abandoned by her mother and lives with her grandfather, became the target of around eight dogs.
Ahmet Aydın, who had pulled over because of a flat tire, heard the dogs barking and the child’s screams and ran to rescue the girl. Evin Bayo was taken to the hospital in an injured state and received approximately 150 stitches to her face and various parts of her body.
Grandfather calls on municipality
Grandfather Bahri Bayo, who said he was out of town when the incident happened, reacted to what occurred. “Seven or eight stray dogs on the street bit her. They tore at her arms and head. We ask the municipality to collect these stray dogs so that other children don’t get hurt,” he said. Describing his granddaughter’s condition, Bayo said, “Her mother left, and her father passed away. I take care of her and her sibling. If the person who rescued her had been a minute later, they would have killed her.”
Fainted from fear
Evin Bayo, who was attacked, described the moment: “That day I was on the road. The dogs were behind the bushes and suddenly appeared in front of me. I fainted before they bit me. When I woke up, they had bitten my head, then they bit my hip. I was very scared. I want the dogs to be collected, so they don’t bite anyone like this.”
Rescuing driver recounts
Ahmet Aydın, who saved the little girl from the dogs, said: “I had gone to the school to pick up some materials. When I came out, my tire went flat, and while I was waiting on the side, I heard the sounds. I ran, and when I saw her wounds, I immediately took her to the hospital.”
