Abdulfattah al-Burhan, chairman of Sudan’s Transitional Sovereignty Council, awarded Turkish Ambassador Fatih Yıldız the first class of the Order of the Two Niles.
The decoration was presented to mark the end of Yıldız’s term and his contributions to strengthening relations between Sudan and Türkiye. The ceremony was held at the presidential palace in Khartoum on Wednesday.
Sudan’s Foreign Minister Muhyiddin Salim also attended Burhan’s meeting with Yıldız. The first class of the Order of the Two Niles is Sudan’s highest decoration awarded to foreign nationals.
Yıldız delivers message on relations and Sudan’s future
Fatih Yıldız said relations between Türkiye and Sudan continue across all areas and are based on deep, historic and well-established ties. Yıldız said the two countries would continue working to take their relations to a higher level.
Yıldız said Sudan’s future depends on preserving its unity, sovereignty and territorial integrity, as well as strengthening the country’s existing institutions. He noted that this process was being carried out under the leadership of the chairman of Sudan’s Transitional Sovereignty Council.
Yıldız said preserving and strengthening the existing institutions was essential to safeguarding Sudan’s sovereignty and unity and ensuring the continuity of the state.
Türkiye’s statement on Sudan
Yıldız said Türkiye’s position in support of Sudan’s stability and sovereignty remained unchanged. He said Sudan’s state institutions could not be equated with the Rapid Support Forces.
Yıldız said lasting peace must be established through an inclusive process in which the Sudanese people determine the future of their country, and expressed his hope for peace and stability in Sudan.
Yıldız’s tenure in Sudan
Fatih Yıldız presented his letter of credence as Türkiye’s ambassador to Sudan on August 25, 2024. As relations between Türkiye and Sudan have developed in recent years, numerous Turkish institutions, particularly the Turkish Cooperation and Coordination Agency, have carried out aid efforts in Sudan.
