The Turkish Women's National Volleyball Team, champions of the Nations League, arrived at Istanbul Airport's VIP Terminal from the Macau Special Administrative Region of China. The traveling party included the athletes, technical staff, Minister of Youth and Sports Osman Aşkın Bak, and Turkish Volleyball Federation President Mehmet Akif Üstündağ.
The Crescent-Stars were greeted with flowers and Turkish flags by a delegation including Istanbul Governor Davut Gül. As the national team emerged from the terminal, they were met with intense interest from numerous members of the press and volleyball fans.
Minister of Youth and Sports Osman Aşkın Bak expressed pride in returning as champions, saying: "We wholeheartedly congratulate the Sultans of the Net. They have made us immensely proud. They are consistently achieving success after success. They also became champions in 2023. They won the VNL by beating Brazil 3-1 in the final. The goals continue. There are major investments in Turkish sports."
Istanbul Governor Davut Gül thanked every member of the volleyball community, saying: "I would like to thank, first and foremost, our President, our Minister, and all stakeholders in sports who have directly contributed to bringing this success to this point."
Turkish Volleyball Federation President Mehmet Akif Üstündağ stressed that Turkish volleyball is number one in Europe and the world, saying: "They put in a lot of effort and hard work. Being number one in the world is not easy. This success belongs to all of us. As long as you support these players, they will achieve even greater successes."
Head coach Daniele Santarelli expressed his delight at the enthusiastic welcome at the airport, saying: "We had a fantastic tournament. We won by playing better day by day. I am proud of my team, my players, and my technical staff. But the goals are not over; we will work harder in the remaining part of the summer to win more trophies."
Team captain Gizem Örge expressed happiness at sharing the same excitement as a nation, saying: "We want to bring back the golden summer of 2023. What we have achieved is a very big thing. There are even bigger things to accomplish ahead of us."
National middle blocker Zehra Güneş said: "I am in my country with a gold medal. As daughters of Atatürk, with the light we have lit, we are working together with those coming through the youth ranks to carry this flag even higher. It will be even more joyful to crown this by achieving our goal at the European Championship on home soil."
Sinead Jack Kısal noted that they worked well throughout the summer and displayed strong team play, saying: "There is still a long road ahead of us."
Young volleyball player Defne Başyolcu, who returned with a medal in her first national team season, said: "There is a wonderful atmosphere here. I was very emotional. We have the European Championship ahead of us. We know we will make our country proud with a gold medal there as well."
