Speaking at an event titled "A View from Ankara: Security and Defence Implications of the NATO Summit" at the UK-based think tank Chatham House, TUSAŞ General Manager Mehmet Demiroğlu said Türkiye makes a strategic contribution to NATO's new security paradigm.
The event addressed NATO's future, Europe's security, transformation in the defence industry, and transatlantic cooperation. The session was attended by NATO Parliamentary Assembly Secretary General Benedetta Berti, Chatham House International Security Programme Director Marion Messmer, former Chair of the UK Parliament Defence Committee Tobias Ellwood, and Demiroğlu. The session was moderated by Chatham House Researcher Galip Dalay.
"NATO 3.0" and the new security approach
Demiroğlu said that in the changing security environment, production capacity, technology development capability, and joint industrial cooperation have become fundamental elements of NATO's collective deterrence. Touching on the new approach to the defence industry adopted at the NATO Summit held in Ankara, Demiroğlu noted that the new security paradigm defined as "NATO 3.0" is shaped not only by military power but also by a strong defence industry, sustainable production capacity, resilient supply chains, technological superiority, and joint industrial cooperation.
Emphasizing that the defence industry ecosystem developed by Türkiye makes a significant contribution to this new approach, Demiroğlu noted that TUSAŞ is one of the strategic actors strengthening NATO's collective deterrence with its original platforms and engineering capability. "Türkiye makes a strategic contribution to NATO's future security architecture," he said.
Transatlantic cooperation and Europe's security
Pointing out that Türkiye is no longer a country that only meets its own needs but has become a strong producer that also contributes to the security of friendly and allied countries, Demiroğlu said that strengthening transatlantic cooperation is of critical importance for Europe's security. "We want to see a stronger NATO with the contribution of both sides of the Atlantic," Demiroğlu said, underlining that defence spending should be evaluated not only by budget size but also by the right capabilities developed against threats.
HÜRJET strengthens Türkiye's position in Europe
Regarding TUSAŞ's international cooperation, Demiroğlu said that the export of HÜRJET to Spain is not only a commercial success but also a strategic step that strengthens the position of advanced aviation technologies developed by Türkiye within the European and NATO ecosystem. He added that HÜRJET can operate in accordance with NATO standards and will further advance defence cooperation with allied countries.
Demiroğlu added that in the changing security environment, cost-effective and rapidly producible systems are gaining importance alongside high-tech platforms, and that TUSAŞ will continue to contribute to the security architecture of NATO and Europe in the future.
