The 2026–2027 school year will begin tomorrow for approximately 17 million students and 1.2 million teachers across all levels of education. During the first week of the school year, various activities will be held to raise awareness of the situation in Gaza.
Education model to be implemented in more classrooms
The curriculum of the Türkiye Century Education Model, which began to be introduced gradually in the 2024–2025 school year, will be implemented this year in kindergarten and practice classes; grades 1, 2 and 3 of primary school; grades 5, 6 and 7 of middle school; and preparatory classes and grades 9, 10 and 11 of secondary education.
Adaptation programs were held from September 7 to 11 to support the transition to school for preschool, first-grade primary school and fifth-grade middle school students.
Activities to be held for children in Gaza
The activities titled “Let No Kites Be Shot Down, Let the Sky Belong to Children,” which will be held during the first week, will focus on four themes. Activities will be organized under the headings “Children Should Play,” “Children Should Grow Up in Safety,” “Education Is Every Child’s Right” and “No Child Should Be Left Behind.”
The activities will address children’s right to play, grow up in safety, receive an education and enjoy their fundamental rights without discrimination. Kite designs, artwork and exhibitions will convey messages of peace, security, solidarity and the right to education for children in Gaza.
The activities, organized under the coordination of provincial governorates, will continue until September 18 in locations to be designated in provincial centers in accordance with students’ safe participation. Parents will also be encouraged to attend the activities.
283 million textbooks prepared
For the new school year, a total of 2,025 types of textbooks were prepared, covering 10 different subjects in preschool education, 420 in primary education, 340 in secondary education, 210 in special education and 1,045 in vocational education.
The total number of books prepared for students reached 283,354,674. In addition, the “My First Step to School with My Child” workbook for preschool and first-grade students, as well as “Bilge and Hakan’s Journey Through the Turkic World” and “Cultural Atlas of the Turkic World: Bilge and Hakan’s Journey Beyond Time” materials for primary and secondary education, were prepared for the first time.
School security and visitor rules to be enforced
Under the circular on the school year, provincial and district executive boards will meet at the beginning of the year to assess possible risks in and around schools. Entrances and exits will be controlled, pedestrian and vehicle traffic will be separated, blind spots will be illuminated, and maintenance and repair work to facilitate evacuation in emergencies will be completed.
Reports and complaints that could threaten the safety of schools and students will be assessed. Protective and preventive measures will be implemented in coordination with the relevant institutions to prevent negative behavior from turning into acts and crimes.
Parent meetings across the country will be scheduled only through the School Appointment System. Unscheduled parent visits and entry to schools by people who are not the student’s parent or legal guardian will not be permitted.
The practice of requiring students not to keep mobile phones in classrooms will continue. Teachers will also not be permitted to use mobile phones in classrooms, while guidance efforts against digital addiction will be increased.
Play to be the theme of the new school year
The theme “Play at the Heart of Education” will guide the 2026–2027 school year. Safe and inclusive play activities suited to students’ ages and developmental characteristics, along with traditional children’s games, will have a greater place in educational processes.
These activities will be carried out in line with the principles and provisions of the Ministry of National Education’s Play Policy Document.
