Nominated for the UNESCO World Heritage List, Tortum Waterfall is experiencing the strongest flow of the year due to the melting snow in the mountains. The water cascading from meters high creates a magnificent view that impresses visitors to the region.
It is noted that standing close to the water is risky due to the increased flow at the waterfall. On sunny days, the rainbows formed by the water droplets make the scenery even more striking.
The Region Transformed with New Arrangements
Projects carried out in coordination with the Governorship, Metropolitan Municipality, Uzundere Municipality, and TKDK have transformed the area around the waterfall. The region now features bungalow houses, walking paths, viewing terraces, a restaurant, a prayer room, and ramps for the disabled.
These arrangements provide a more comfortable space for both day visitors and those wishing to stay longer. Alongside its natural beauty, the waterfall is also standing out with its infrastructure.
Uzundere Boosts Tourism Interest
Uzundere, where Tortum Waterfall is located, was selected as Turkey's 11th Cittaslow (International Slow City) by the International Cittaslow Network. This title has made the district more visible to tourists from both inside and outside the country.
Uzundere Mayor Halis Özsoy stated that they expect interest in the region to increase further in the coming months. Özsoy predicted a rise in visitor numbers in July, August, September, and October as the weather warms.
Özsoy also mentioned that daily maintenance work continues around the waterfall. Authorities say that preparations and arrangements in the area are ongoing to get ready for the busy season.
Visitors Highlight the Difference in Flow
Regular visitor Metin Polat said he has never seen the waterfall as powerful as this year. Polat stated that they have witnessed the largest flow in the last 20 years.
Abdulbaki Pala, who came from Istanbul to his hometown, recalled that in previous years the waterfall appeared weak due to drought. Pala argued that this year's flow has noticeably increased and that more tour organizations should be arranged for the region.
