Trade Minister Ömer Bolat said in a statement following the opening of a truck parking area at the Cilvegözü Customs Gate in Hatay that the trade volume between Türkiye and Syria rose by 45% in 2025.
Bolat said trade between the two countries increased by 16% in the first seven months of the year. The statement came after the opening ceremony and a visit to the border gate at Cilvegözü Customs Gate.
The role of crossing points in Türkiye-Syria trade
Bolat said relations between Türkiye and Syria were developing rapidly and that progress in commercial and economic ties would contribute to the prosperity of the peoples of both countries.
Bolat said Syria was an important route for Türkiye's access to the Gulf region and North Africa, while Türkiye held an important position for Syria's access to the West, Europe and the Caucasus.
Bolat said six border gates were currently operating between the two countries and highlighted the importance of transportation, trade, transit trade and energy corridors connecting Türkiye, Syria, the Middle East and the Gulf region.
Truck parking area opened jointly
Kuteybe Ahmed Bedvi, head of Syria's General Administration of Border Crossings and Customs, also expressed his satisfaction with the joint opening of the truck parking area. Bedvi said trade between Türkiye and Syria had increased recently.
Bedvi said the rise in trade required the expansion of work areas on both the Turkish and Syrian sides, adding that Türkiye and Syria were brotherly countries in every field.
Bedvi announced that they would make every possible effort to increase the number of trucks and improve relations between the two countries.
Following the statements, Bolat toured the buffer zone with the Syrian official and the accompanying officials.
