Archers who participated in the Traditional Aksaçlılar Competitions organized by the Traditional Turkish Archery Federation in Gaziantep visited the shrine of Sa'd ibn Abi Waqqas after the event.
After competing in the event, the traditional Turkish archers visited the shrine of Sa'd ibn Abi Waqqas, whom they regard as the master of archery. The shrine is located on a hill overlooking the Araban Plain, where Sa'd ibn Abi Waqqas stayed during his campaign in Diyarbakır.
During the visit, the Quran was recited and prayers were offered for the soul of Sa'd ibn Abi Waqqas.
Sa'd ibn Abi Waqqas's place in Turkish archery
Cengiz Toksöz, president of the Turkish Traditional Archery Federation, said Sa'd ibn Abi Waqqas distinguished himself with his archery, particularly during the Battle of Uhud. Toksöz said that the Prophet Muhammad praised Sa'd ibn Abi Waqqas for his skillful use of the arrows he had given him and prayed for him.
Toksöz said Sa'd ibn Abi Waqqas is regarded as the master of Turkish archery because of this incident at the Battle of Uhud. He stated that traditional Turkish archery is not only a sport but is also shaped by Turkish-Islamic values such as history, faith, morality, customs and traditions.

Federation President Toksöz noted that showing loyalty to these values is important for traditional Turkish archery.
