Kathimerini, one of Greece's leading newspapers, reported that the recent rapprochement between Turkey and Egypt in the defense field has caused concern in Athens.
Meeting and Letter of Intent
According to the newspaper's report titled 'Turkey and Egypt draw closer in defense,' Haluk Görgün, the head of Turkey's Presidency of Defense Industries, met with Egypt's Minister of Defense and Military Production, Lieutenant General Ashraf Salim Zahir, on July 13.
During the meeting, a letter of intent was signed to define the framework for defense industry cooperation between the two countries. The report noted that Egypt aims to become a production hub for unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs), one of the most exported products of the Turkish defense industry.

Joint Exercises and Libya Agreement
Kathimerini also reported that Turkey and Egypt have conducted joint training exercises with air, naval, and land forces. It also highlighted the importance of a quadrilateral meeting held in Egypt with the participation of Turkey, Saudi Arabia, and Pakistan.
The report stated that Turkey and Egypt reached agreement on many issues concerning Libya at this meeting.
The Greek newspaper assessed that 'while the rapprochement between Turkey and Egypt does not yet pose a direct threat to Greece's interests, it is a factor that increases concern due to the tremors in the region's geopolitical balance.'
