Turkey's Rabat Embassy held a commemoration event in the Moroccan capital Rabat on the 10th anniversary of July 15 Democracy and National Unity Day.
As part of the event, a photo exhibition was opened focusing on the Turkish people's resistance against the coup attempt and its martyrs.
The ceremony was attended by Turkish and Moroccan officials as well as Turkish citizens living in Morocco.
Turkey's Ambassador to Rabat Mustafa İlker Kılıç said in his speech that July 15 symbolizes the Turkish people's will to protect democracy and state institutions.
Kılıç stated, "The will displayed by the people on the night of July 15 has been inscribed in history in golden letters, and the people's will will remain the ultimate authority in the future."
The ambassador emphasized that the epic of democracy written that night has become one of the strongest pillars of Turkey's future projects.
Kılıç also commemorated Cevad Merun, a Moroccan who was martyred while participating in protests in Istanbul during the coup attempt. Merun is known to be the only foreign national martyr who lost his life in the July 15 events.
The ambassador said, "Cevad Merun is an important symbol of the relations between the Moroccan and Turkish peoples. It is the duty of all of us to keep his story alive and preserve it."
It was noted that the event aimed to highlight the meaning and importance of Democracy and National Unity Day, as well as to remind of the sacrifices of those who stood against the coup attempt.
