Turkish Airlines finalized an order agreement with Boeing covering up to 150 Boeing 737 MAX aircraft, including 100 firm orders and 50 options. The agreement was signed in the presence of President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan.
Finalized after negotiations that had been ongoing since 2025, the agreement is Turkish Airlines’ largest single-aisle aircraft order from Boeing to date. The order is intended to strengthen the company’s short- and medium-haul flight network and support its fleet growth strategy.
Scope of the order
Under the agreement, 100 Boeing 737-8 aircraft were placed as firm orders. Turkish Airlines also secured options for 50 Boeing 737 MAX aircraft.
The agreement also gives Turkish Airlines the option to transition to the Boeing 737-10, the largest member of the 737 MAX family. This is intended to allow the company to plan fleet capacity more flexibly in line with passenger demand and operational needs.
Fuel and emissions target
The new aircraft are expected to strengthen short- and medium-haul operations, particularly on high-demand domestic and international routes. In addition to the Boeing 737-8’s range and payload advantages, the aircraft are targeted to deliver a 20% reduction in fuel consumption and emissions.
The Turkish Airlines and AJet fleets include more than 200 Boeing aircraft, including the 737 MAX, 737 Next-Generation, 787 Dreamliner, 777 and 777 Freighter models. The new order further expands cooperation between the two companies following the order for 75 Boeing 787 Dreamliners placed in 2025.
Cooperation supporting Türkiye’s aviation ecosystem
In addition to the aircraft order, Turkish Airlines and Boeing are continuing their long-term efforts to support Türkiye’s aviation ecosystem. The two companies signed a strategic memorandum of understanding on industrial participation this year.
The framework focuses on capability development, value creation and business opportunities. The efforts aim to develop capabilities, share technology and expertise, support human resources, strengthen sustainability initiatives and create new industrial cooperation opportunities.
The industrial participation framework and aircraft order extend Boeing’s long-term efforts to support Türkiye’s aviation ecosystem beyond fleet growth.
Executives comment on the agreement
Murat Şeker, chairman of the board and executive committee of Turkish Airlines, said the new Boeing 737 MAX aircraft would bring greater efficiency and flexibility to operations. Şeker said the aircraft would support the extensive flight network managed from the Istanbul hub and that the agreement would contribute to Türkiye’s aviation ecosystem.
Şeker said Turkish Airlines would continue strengthening Türkiye’s aviation ecosystem in the areas of capability development, value creation and business opportunities under the strategic memorandum of understanding signed with Boeing.
Stephanie Pope, president and chief executive officer of Boeing Commercial Airplanes, said the order reflected the mutual trust and shared vision shaping the long-standing cooperation between Turkish Airlines and Boeing. Pope said Boeing would continue contributing to the expansion of the Istanbul-based flight network and supporting Türkiye’s aviation ecosystem.
