At a ceremony held on Friday at Romania's Constanta Port, the Turkish-built 'Kontra Amiral Roman' corvette officially entered the Romanian Naval Forces inventory.
Built at the Istanbul Shipyard Command under the main contractorship of Turkish defense company ASFAT, the ship was produced under an intergovernmental agreement signed between the two countries in December 2025. The corvette arrived in Romania following a delivery ceremony held in Istanbul on June 20.

The ceremony was attended by Turkish Deputy Minister of National Defense Musa Heybet, Romanian Defense Minister Radu-Dinil Mirota, Romanian Chief of General Staff General Gheorghița Vlad, and military and diplomatic officials from both countries.
In his speech, Musa Heybet emphasized that defense cooperation between Ankara and Bucharest would continue to cover spare parts supply, modernization, maintenance, and repair work. He stated that the new corvette would be a symbol of peace and security in the Black Sea, as well as the unshakable friendship between Turkey and Romania.
Romanian Defense Minister Mirota, for his part, described the ship's entry into the inventory as a 'historic event.' Noting that the Romanian navy had taken delivery of a new corvette for the first time in 35 years, the minister expressed his satisfaction at having this modern warship.
