Türkiye’s Minister of Labor and Social Security Vedat Işıkhan and Libya’s Government of National Unity Minister of Labor and Rehabilitation Ali al-Abid al-Rida signed a memorandum of understanding aimed at developing cooperation between the two countries in labor and employment.
The meeting addressed the development of relations between Türkiye and Libya, as well as cooperation in labor markets and social security. Following the meeting, a signing ceremony was held between the two governments for cooperation in labor and employment.
Areas of cooperation to be expanded
Işıkhan said Türkiye attaches great importance to developing its long-standing relations with Libya in every area. He said Türkiye continues its close contact and solidarity with Libya on protecting common rights and interests in the Eastern Mediterranean and strengthening cooperation between the two countries.
Işıkhan said the bonds of friendship and brotherhood between President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan and Abdulhamid Dbeibeh, Prime Minister of Libya’s Government of National Unity, have been an important driving force in developing relations between Türkiye and Libya. He added that Türkiye attaches importance to cooperation with Libya in labor relations and employment.
Işıkhan said the meeting was the third held in the past year and a half. He said the sides had agreed during their previous meeting, held in Doha last October on the sidelines of the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation Conference of Labour Ministers, to complete the memorandum of understanding signed today in a short time.
Joint working committee to be established
Under the protocol, the parties plan to share information, experience and examples of good practices in areas including developing vocational training and workforce adaptation programs, combating unemployment, promoting a culture of occupational health and safety, and establishing national occupational standards.
A Joint Working Committee to be established under the memorandum will regularly assess cooperation in labor and employment. Action plans will link joint efforts to specific timelines and targets, while results are expected to be monitored regularly.
Işıkhan said he believes the signed protocol will strengthen relations in labor and employment and further reinforce the bonds of friendship and brotherhood between Türkiye and Libya.
