Türkiye and the Philippines have signed a memorandum of understanding aimed at developing relations in air transport. The talks were held in Istanbul between the Directorate General of Civil Aviation and the Philippine Civil Aviation Authority.
The protocol was signed by Director General of Civil Aviation Kemal Yüksük and Philippine Transport Minister Giovanni Lopez.
Flight rights on the Istanbul–Manila route will increase
The agreement paves the way for increasing the number of weekly flights on the Istanbul–Manila route from 7 to 14. The increase will be achieved by granting 7 additional flight rights.
Unlimited flight rights were granted for flights to points other than Istanbul and Manila. The arrangement is expected to provide flexibility for establishing new routes and expanding the air transport network between the two countries.
Airlines were also given the opportunity to use coterminalization, which allows shared flight points to be combined within a single service, provided that cabotage rights are not exercised.

New talks to be held
The memorandum is expected to improve passenger transport between Türkiye and the Philippines and strengthen relations in tourism, trade and the economy. The arrangement aims to diversify air links between the two countries.
The parties plan to hold new talks in the near future in response to changing market conditions and rising passenger demand. SHGM announced that there is a shared commitment to continue negotiations to gradually expand air transport rights.
SHGM announced that it aims to strengthen Türkiye’s position in the global air transport network by developing international cooperation, increase Turkish airlines’ access to international markets and improve Türkiye’s air links with different regions.
