Türkiye’s Foreign Ministry congratulated Mauritania’s candidate, Ismail Ould Cheikh Ahmed, on his election as secretary-general of the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation.
In a statement on Thursday, the ministry said Ahmed had been unanimously elected secretary-general at the organisation’s 23rd Extraordinary Meeting of the Council of Foreign Ministers, held in Jeddah. The ministry wished Ahmed success and ease in his new role.
The ministry said it believes the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation will continue contributing to efforts to overcome the common challenges facing the Muslim world in the coming period.
The statement also said the organisation is expected to continue playing an active role in defending common causes, particularly the Palestinian cause, and in strengthening cooperation and solidarity among member states.
