Türkiye’s Foreign Ministry rejected on Saturday a statement by Israel’s Foreign Ministry targeting President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan.
The ministry said the language used in the Israeli Foreign Ministry’s statement reflected the mindset of those serving in the Israeli government. It accused Israel’s government, particularly Netanyahu and those around him, of committing genocide in Gaza.
Foreign Ministry delivers sharp response
The ministry said Netanyahu and those around him had brought “historic shame” upon the entire Israeli people. It also said the Israeli leadership had demonstrated unprecedented expansionism in the modern history of the Middle East and was one of the main sources of regional and global instability.
The Foreign Ministry argued that the legal and political immunity enjoyed by Netanyahu and those around him had come to an end. It said the propaganda activities of Israeli institutions had failed to change the international community’s view of statements made by the Israeli government.
Türkiye to maintain its position
The ministry said that, under the leadership of President Erdoğan, Türkiye had maintained an honest and determined position against what it described as crimes committed during the Netanyahu era. It said Türkiye would continue to defend and voice the truth.
Communications Director Burhanettin Duran also said Israel’s statement was a clear example of a mindset that resorts to smear campaigns and propaganda instead of confronting the facts.
Duran argued that Israel was attempting to hide behind the concept of antisemitism to conceal its aggression, the genocide it said was being committed in Gaza, war crimes and crimes against humanity. Duran said Türkiye’s objection was directed at Israel’s occupation, oppression, massacres and violations of international law, and stated that Erdoğan would continue defending the Palestinian cause and supporting the people of Gaza and regional stability.
