Türkiye’s domestically developed Hürkuş-2 basic trainer aircraft received its first military certification following a comprehensive review conducted in line with international standards. The process was completed using national expertise.
According to a statement from the Presidency of Defense Industries, the certification marked the first time Türkiye had successfully completed military certification procedures for a domestically developed air platform using national expertise.
153 tests conducted during certification process
The certificate was issued by a committee composed of personnel from the Presidency of Defense Industries and the Turkish Air Force. The work covered 12 different certification areas.
During the review, 1.790 requirements were checked and 950 technical evidence documents were assessed. A total of 153 tests were conducted, including 38 laboratory tests, 71 ground tests and 44 flight tests.
The certification covered avionics systems, electronic equipment, electrical systems, electromagnetic environmental effects, propulsion and fuel systems, human factors, cabin safety and other systems.
Görgün calls certification a technical and strategic milestone
Haluk Görgün, head of the Presidency of Defense Industries, said the certification represented a technical and strategic milestone for Türkiye’s aviation industry. Görgün said the work demonstrated Türkiye’s capacity to design, produce, test, verify and certify its aircraft.
Görgün said Türkiye was not only developing air platforms but also building national technical expertise, methods and a certification culture to verify the reliability of those platforms.
Görgün said the experience gained through the Hürkuş-2 project would become lasting expertise and institutional memory serving future domestically developed air platforms, adding that it would strengthen design, testing, verification and certification capabilities.
Hürkuş-2 is an advanced basic trainer aircraft produced by Turkish Aerospace Industries to meet the pilot training needs of the Turkish Air Force.
