More than 70% of Turkish users said they had used artificial intelligence every day over the past week. Popovskiy, who shared Yandex data, said this rate was much higher than in Russia, the company's other market.
Popovskiy said the use of generative AI in consumers' daily lives was growing faster than expected. He said users initially experimented with AI for purposes such as entertainment, image generation and animating photos, but over time made it part of their daily lives.
AI is becoming an alternative to search engines
Popovskiy said Yandex AI users were increasingly using the application to access the internet and search for information, noting that AI applications were beginning to become an alternative to traditional internet searches and browsers.
Popovskiy said Turkish users were not using AI only for complex tasks. He said they also turned to AI to get news, obtain information about football matches, understand the latest episode of television series and assess what might happen in the next episode.

Call to increase the share of local companies
Popovskiy said stakeholders in Türkiye had recognized the importance of creating local AI models and data centers ready for AI. However, he stressed that AI sovereignty was not limited to building local models and infrastructure.
Popovskiy said it was important for local companies to establish direct contact with users as the AI market grows, adding that people should use AI services not only from global companies but also from local Turkish companies. He said Yandex was ready to offer Turkish consumer companies solutions with proven success in Türkiye under a white-label model.
Popovskiy said he saw the greatest potential in consumer AI in the telecommunications sector, followed by banks and other financial institutions. He said these companies had broad customer bases and digital platforms through which they could offer additional services, adding that AI could be used to improve customer relations and provide new services, including chatbots.
Popovskiy also announced that talks were under way in various markets, including Türkiye, with telecommunications companies and banks to develop white-label AI applications.
Growth in Yandex AI use
Sedat Öztürk, general manager of Yandex Search and Artificial Intelligence, said new technologies were being adopted rapidly in Türkiye. Öztürk announced that the share of users of Yandex AI, which was launched in February, had risen to nearly 75% in Türkiye over the past two to three months.
Öztürk said telecommunications applications could be made smarter through AI integration for tasks such as starting or ending a subscription, changing a plan, finding out which tariffs can be used abroad and accessing billing information.
Work on a Turkish AI model
Öztürk stressed that qualified human resources needed to be developed for Türkiye to become a regional AI and data center hub, saying that the country's first graduate program in AI engineering had been launched with Middle East Technical University for this purpose.
Pointing to the importance of local integrations and local language models, Öztürk announced that Yandex Türkiye had launched work on a Turkish large language model called “BİLGE” together with TÜBİTAK.
Öztürk said the Yandex AI for Business solution was intended to help companies develop their own applications with an AI focus, adding that businesses could integrate their existing services with Yandex AI or Yandex technology into their own applications.
Öztürk said AI assistants integrated into e-commerce websites or applications could be used for product searches, style and purchasing recommendations, analysis of past purchases and budget management. He said they were preparing products and features to make customer journeys fully AI-based from end to end, adding that talks had begun with some companies.
