Türkiye's Marlin unmanned surface vessel has gained the capability to deploy Malaman smart naval mines.
Marlin was developed through a joint effort by Sefine Shipyard and defense company ASELSAN as the first unmanned surface vessel to enter the inventory of the Turkish Naval Forces. The project was carried out under the coordination of the Presidency of Defense Industries.
Mine-laying system integrated into Marlin
The integration of locally developed Malaman naval mines into Marlin marked an important step in improving the capacity to deploy mines using unmanned systems. The smart mines were developed by Sefine Shipyard, the SISAM research center and KoçDefense.
Coordinated work was carried out for a year to develop capabilities enabling mine deployment using unmanned systems in line with the operational needs of the Turkish Naval Forces.
The design and production phases of the mine-laying system have been completed. Autonomous and remotely controlled mine-laying algorithms, along with mission-planning interfaces, were also integrated into the platform.
Autonomous and remotely controlled testing conducted
Sefine Shipyard completed the system's validation and testing activities. During this process, Marlin successfully carried out the planned mine-laying mission in both autonomous and remotely controlled modes.
With this capability, Türkiye strengthened its position among the small number of countries able to deploy mines using unmanned surface vessels.
Marlin's modular architecture and multipurpose mission structure were also enhanced. The platform is intended to provide speed, reduced risk, operational flexibility and a high degree of concealment in future maritime operations.
