Türkiye’s Trade Ministry continues its inspections of property and vehicle listings published on social media platforms under the Electronic Listing Verification System (EİDS). In the latest reviews, 70 real estate agencies and auto dealerships found to have posted listings that violated regulations on Instagram, Facebook and TikTok were fined a total of 7 million liras.
With these penalties, the number of businesses fined for sharing non-compliant property and vehicle listings on social media platforms rose to 152. The total administrative fines imposed on the businesses reached 15.2 million liras.
EİDS verification is mandatory
Identity and authorization verification is required for property and vehicle listings published electronically, including on Instagram, Facebook, WhatsApp and TikTok. To use photographs, videos or descriptions in social media posts, a listing link verified through EİDS must be shared.
The images and descriptions shared must relate to the property or vehicle in the verified listing. Listings must also include the price of the property or vehicle.
Social media platforms also fined
As part of the inspections, administrative fines were also imposed on platforms found not to be integrated with EİDS and not to have fulfilled their obligations to verify identity and authorization. Meta Platforms İstanbul Bilişim Hizmetleri Ltd. Şti. was fined 20 million liras, while TikTok İstanbul Dijital Medya ve Reklam Ltd. Şti. was fined 4 million liras.
The ministry said the total administrative fines imposed on Meta Platforms İstanbul Bilişim Hizmetleri Ltd. Şti. in this scope had reached 36.2 million liras.
Ministry warns businesses
Türkiye’s Trade Ministry will continue monitoring property and vehicle listings on social media platforms to protect consumers, prevent fake listings and listing pollution, and ensure transparency in the electronic commerce environment.
The ministry said real estate agencies and auto dealerships must include links to listings verified through EİDS and the listing price in their posts to avoid administrative sanctions. It also said that the images and descriptions used must relate to the property or vehicle featured in the verified listing.
