Ukraine and France launched a new initiative named Brave France to develop defense technologies. The program will provide a total of 20 million euros in grants to Ukrainian and French defense companies.
The agreement was signed during the Eurosatory 2026 defense exhibition in Paris. The signing ceremony was attended by French Defense Innovation Agency Director Patrick Aufort and Brave1 Operations Director Iryna Zabolotna; French Armed Forces Minister Catherine Vautrin was also present.
The two countries will split the fund equally
The program's financing will be shared equally between the two sides. Accordingly, both France and Ukraine will each contribute 10 million euros.
According to Brave1's statement, the maximum grant amount per project will be 1 million euros. The first call for applications is planned to open in September 2026.
Focus on missiles, unmanned systems, and air defense
Under the initiative, companies will work on missile systems, unmanned platforms, and air defense solutions. The program aims to further advance defense industry cooperation between the two countries.
The Ukrainian side announced that the technologies to be developed can be tested through its "Test in Ukraine" platform. This aims to test the systems in an environment close to real combat conditions.
Ukraine expands defense partnerships with Europe
Brave France has become the latest link in a chain of agreements aimed at expanding defense production between Ukraine and its European allies. Ukraine and Germany also launched the Brave Germany initiative on May 11, signing a similar agreement to provide grants for German and Ukrainian defense research and development projects.
France joining this process shows that Kyiv continues its effort to strengthen its defense capacity through joint production and technology development.
