Ukraine and Slovakia are working to set the date and location for a new round of intergovernmental consultations. Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha announced that preparations are ongoing following his meeting with Slovak Foreign Minister Juraj Blanár in Vinnytsia.
Sybiha stated that during the meeting, the two ministers discussed in detail the implementation of agreements previously reached between President Volodymyr Zelenskiy and Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico. The minister emphasized that both sides are actively working on upcoming meetings and contacts.
Strengthening Bilateral Mechanisms
Sybiha noted that the existing intergovernmental consultation format between Ukraine and Slovakia allows for advancing joint projects and making coordinated decisions. Preparations are underway regarding when and where the next round will take place.
During Blanár’s visit, Sybiha also conveyed Slovakia’s readiness to support the opening of the "first and other negotiation clusters," highlighting that the meeting emphasized bilateral cooperation and coordination.
Groundwork Laid in May
In May, Zelenskiy announced in Yerevan that an agreement was reached with Fico on mutual visits. The same announcement indicated that intergovernmental consultations between Ukraine and Slovakia could be held in Kyiv or Bratislava by the end of June.
The recent meeting in Vinnytsia has brought renewed focus on finalizing this schedule. It appears the parties are working on a new framework to continue joint projects and political contacts.
