The Turkish-flagged and unarmed bulk carrier MV Reyhan Sarı, which was carrying coal from Russia’s Port of Taman to Trabzon, was allegedly attacked by Ukrainian drones off Novorossiysk on July 21.
The attack killed 54-year-old Turkish sailor Savaş Çakar, who was working in the engine room, and injured two crew members.
Abbas Çakar called for those responsible for his brother’s death to be held accountable and announced that he would pursue international legal action against them. Çakar stressed that his brother was a sailor who worked to support his two children.
A message allegedly sent from the official email address of Robert Brovdi, commander of Ukraine’s Unmanned Systems Forces, reportedly contained the following statements: “Your brother deliberately chose this path. He contributed to the enrichment of the Russian Federation and got what he deserved.”
