The United Nations (UN) announced on the occasion of the World Day Against Child Labour that 138 million children are still engaged in work worldwide. Highlighting that the number of child workers has decreased from 246 million to 138 million over the past 25 years, the UN stressed that the current rate of progress is insufficient to completely eliminate child labour.
The UN Geneva Office's statement noted that although significant progress has been made in reducing child labour, millions of children are still deprived of their rights to education, health, and a safe life. The statement emphasized that the world remains far from achieving the goal of ending child labour.
