In a written statement, Uraloğlu provided information about the work carried out on Türkiye’s railways since 2002. He said 2,251 kilometers of high-speed rail lines had been built from scratch during this period.
Uraloğlu announced that 114 million passengers had traveled on high-speed trains to date. He said Türkiye ranked sixth in Europe and eighth in the world in high-speed rail operations.
Railway network expanded
Uraloğlu said the railway network had grown from 10,948 kilometers to 13,919 kilometers. He said this had restored railways to a strong position in Türkiye’s transportation system.
Uraloğlu said that, alongside the construction of new lines, the existing infrastructure had also undergone extensive transformation, with the railway network renewed and modernized.
Uraloğlu announced that 61 percent of the lines had been equipped with signaling and more than half had been electrified. He said the existing infrastructure had been transformed into a railway network meeting world standards.
Lines under construction
Uraloğlu said investments in new high-speed rail and railway lines were continuing across Türkiye. He announced that work was ongoing on the Ankara-Izmir, Halkalı-Kapıkule, Bandırma-Bursa-Yenişehir-Osmaneli, Mersin-Adana-Osmaniye-Gaziantep, Yerköy-Kayseri, Kırıkkale-Çorum and Karaman-Ulukışla lines.
Uraloğlu said the high-speed rail network would continue to expand and announced that the number of provinces directly connected by high-speed rail is targeted to increase from 11 to 27 by 2028.
