US Central Command (CENTCOM) announced that it completed the third round of airstrikes on Iran on Sunday morning and struck approximately 140 military targets.
The statement said the attack, carried out by fighter jets carrying high-precision munitions, was conducted in response to Iran's attacks on commercial vessels in the Strait of Hormuz.
Targets struck with precision-guided munitions
The targets struck included missile and drone storage areas, military arsenals, communication systems, coastal observation points, and naval facilities.
More than 300 targets were destroyed in the three-night operations.
Trump's directive in effect
CENTCOM emphasized that the strikes were carried out on the orders of US President Donald Trump, with the aim of degrading Iran's ability to attack commercial vessels and mariners transiting freely through the Strait of Hormuz.
The statement said that since early May, US forces have provided safe escort to more than 800 commercial vessels and approximately 400 million barrels of crude oil in the Strait of Hormuz.
Three separate attacks on Iran in a week
The US military had previously carried out attacks on Iran on July 7 and 8, citing Iran's 'targeting of commercial vessels' as the reason.
