A new technical visit has been added to transport and rail systems contacts between Türkiye and Uzbekistan.
A delegation comprising representatives of Uzbekistan’s Ministry of Transport, the Tashkent City Administration and Tashkent Metro JSC visited Istanbul to examine the Marmaray system on site.
Representatives of the International Association of Public Transport (UITP) also joined the visit, which was announced by the Turkish State Railways (TCDD).
Marmaray’s operating system examined
The main focus of the Uzbek delegation’s visit was Marmaray’s daily operating processes and technological infrastructure.
Hosted by Istanbul Regional Director Uğur Taşkınsakarya and TCDD officials, the delegation conducted technical inspections at different points of the Marmaray system.
The programme began with a visit to Yenikapı Station, one of Marmaray’s major transport hubs.
Uzbek officials were briefed there on the system’s operating structure and passenger transport processes.

Technical visit to Maltepe maintenance facilities
One of the delegation’s next stops was the Maltepe Rolling Stock Maintenance Workshop.
Uzbek transport officials had the opportunity to examine the maintenance and operational processes for Marmaray trains.
During the technical visit, the delegation was briefed on practices for keeping rail system vehicles in service and on Marmaray’s operational structure.
Traffic Management Center also examined
Another notable part of the programme was a visit to Marmaray’s Traffic Management Center.
The Uzbek delegation examined the center where Marmaray train traffic is managed and operating processes are monitored, and received information about the system’s technological infrastructure.
TCDD said the delegation was given a detailed introduction to Marmaray’s operating practices and technological infrastructure throughout the visit.
Tashkent metro targets major modernization
The visit also took place at a time when Uzbekistan is carrying out comprehensive efforts to expand and modernize the metro system in its capital, Tashkent.
Under plans previously announced by the Uzbek administration, the Tashkent metro is targeted to reach 79 stations and a total network length of 103 kilometers by 2030.
The same plan aims to significantly increase daily passenger capacity, modernize technical infrastructure, improve security systems and benefit from international practices in metro operations.
Close examination of Türkiye’s rail systems experience
For this reason, the visit in Istanbul stood out as a technical working programme rather than merely a protocol engagement.
The examination by officials from Uzbekistan’s Ministry of Transport and Tashkent Metro JSC of Marmaray’s station, maintenance and traffic management processes within the same programme is important for developing the exchange of knowledge and experience between the two countries’ transport institutions.
Marmaray operates as one of Türkiye’s most important rail transport systems, connecting the European and Asian sides of Istanbul by rail.
Through the Uzbek delegation’s visit to Istanbul, representatives of the institutions responsible for developing Tashkent’s public transport system directly examined Marmaray’s operational and technological experience on site.
